Kent County Championships 2022

Track & Field

Miles, medals and more!

Athletes at Invicta East Kent Athletics Club continued their winning ways of late with Matt Stonier riding on the high of recent success winning the Emsley Carr Mile in an incredible 3:54 while training partner Alexandra Millard finished 2nd in her race at the British Milers Club in Birmingham picking up a new personal best in 5000m in 15:47 which sees her as the 12th fastest 5000m woman in the UK at the moment.

This kicked off a weekend of success for the Canterbury-based club. Athletes from all disciplines at Invicta took part in the Kent County Championships with medals and personal bests galore!

Some notable performances included U20 Scarlet Thomas-Wright who claimed gold in both the 200m and 100m with personal bests in both events; 25.68 in the 200m and 12.31 (shaving time off her recent personal best from a few weeks ago) in the 100. Both times put her well in the UK top 50.

Scarlet’s teammate Charlotte Henrich proved why she is ranked number 1 in the country for the 300m with a win in her U17 race in 39.44, 4 seconds ahead of 2nd place! It shows the level she is at that she was disappointed with this performance as she wanted to run under 39 seconds!

Scarlet’s 200m success came just after her younger brother Josh claimed bronze in an incredibly close U17 men’s 100m race. He finished in a new personal best of 11.71! Also in Josh’s heat was newcomer Ivan Martin who finished 5th in his heat with an excellent personal best of 12.01. Matthew Cook and James Gill both finished 3rd in their U17 men’s 200m heat both qualifying for the final where James finished 5th and Matthew 7th. In the U15 race, William Bryant finished a fantastic 4th in his final in 25.79. He also got bronze in the shot putt – fantastic performances for his first season competing.

Siblings Amelia, Harrison and Gracie Lawton represented in the multi events with U15 Gracie picking up bronze in the shot putt and javelin, (with personal bests in both) Harrison silver in the U20 men’s shot putt and Amelia bronze in the hammer. Newer athletes Oliver Downs and Lacee Webb also put Invicta’s multi events on the map with Oliver picking up not one but three bronze medals in the U15 boy’s long jump, javelin and triple jump while Lacee won the U15 girl’s hammer with a new personal best and got bronze in the discuss. Doug Noel won the senior men’s pole vault with a jump of 4.20m; a jump which puts him 19th in the country. He also got silver in the shot putt and long jump. Jildou Chappell won silver in the U20 women’s javelin with a new personal best of 33.92m.

Invicta took the top two spots in the senior men’s 1500m with Oliver Weston taking the win and Thomas Storer finishing in 2nd with a new personal best time. In the younger age groups, the club showed their dominance in this event with Jamie Keir taking the win in the U20 age group with a new personal best of 3:55.67.  Adam Whitlock got bronze in the U17 race and the following day a superb silver in the 800m with personal; bests in both events. In the U20 women’s 1500m, Invicta took up half of the field with Lucy Proctor finishing 4th, Teigan Sullivan 5th and Millie Knightley 6th.

Overall, a fantastic weekend for a small club!
