Press Release for Canterbury 10

Pentland Homes 2023, Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race
is a sell out for 22nd January

The Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race, one of the oldest running events in East Kent, is taking place this coming Sunday, 22nd January. Following the smaller race numbers during the Covid restrictions, the race is back more normal numbers and is a sell-out with 1,250 runners expected on the start line. There will be no entries available on race-day.

The race will start at 9.00am to help protect runners from any issues with traffic although the majority of the route is on quiet lanes and farm roads. It will challenge runners of all abilities over the 10 mile distance. Entrants are drawn mainly from Kent, but also from other parts of the UK and from overseas. The race starts and finishes in Spring Lane in Canterbury and is a picturesque course passing through the villages of Bridge, Patrixbourne and Bekesbourne. Spectators are welcome.

Winner for the past two years, former Invicta runner Charlie Brisley (pictured) who now competes for Newham and Essex Beagles is returning to defend his title and is favourite to take a third race victory. The ladies race is very open although three time winner Helen Gaunt from Tonbridge AC is returning to try and chalk up a fourth victory.

Canterbury based Invicta East Kent Athletic Club, who organise the race, have continued their sponsorship arrangement with Pentland Homes, who are builders of houses in the Canterbury area. They also run the Korean Cowgirl chain of restaurants and will be promoting their new restaurant situated in the Riverside development in Canterbury. Invicta also continue to use Christ Church University Sports Centre as the Race HQ.

“Demelza Hospice Care for Children” are once again the chosen charity and in partnership with the organisers they will help to provide marshals on the course.

All runners completing the course will receive a great new bespoke medal and free photographic downloads.

Race Director Glenn Mousley has said : “we are working with new race marketing software this year which has been vital in helping the race to return to its high level of popularity. We have also brought back a massage service to help sooth tired legs at the end of the race.”
