Throwing events success for Invicta East Kent AC

Invicta East Kent’s Throwers showed real promise for the future at the Kent County U13 Championships on 18th and 19th September.

Young Gracie Lawton followed in older sister Amelia’s success at the older age group championships earlier this year, both with sterling success in the throwing events. Following the weekend, Gracie came away with a gold in the  discus, javelin and bronze in the hammer. In addition to this, she picked up 5 personal bests across the weekend! What an incredible performance from Gracie.

Meanwhile, Layla Forrest won the high jump and a bronze in the shot putt as well as a personal best in the 75m. Layla finished 2nd in her 150m heat, just missing out on a place in the final.

New athlete Oliver Downs was in fine form over the weekend, winning the long jump and silver in the discus and shot putt!

We had an Invicta 4th and 5th in the 75m hurdles with Layla claiming the 4th spot and Layla the 5th.

On the track, Luke Martin finished 2nd in his 200m, eventually finishing 4th in the final in 27.86. Lois Baisley finished 4th in her 800m heat in a time of 2:34.33, also finishing 8th in the 1200m final where she took 10 seconds off her personal best. Lois also finished 6th in the high jump.

Nate Thompson was a fantastic 5th in the 800m final.

The following week, Invicta had an all-female representation at the Kent Relay Championships where the above mentioned Layla, Lois and Gracie finished a fantastic 4th in the 3x800 and then teamed up with Niamh Gavin to form a strong team for the 4x100 where they finished 3rd in their heat and 6th in the final.

In the U17 age group , Zoe Rogers, Amy Goodhand and Lorna Forbes bagged the gold in the 3x800, while Lorna joined sprinters Scarlet Thomas-Wright, Izzy Smith and Charlotte Henrich to form a bronze medal winning team in the 4x100.

The U15 girls of Zoe Vallis, Jessica Broster and Jessica Stark finished 3rd in their 3x800 heat, later finishing 5th in the final, while sprinters Leila Azizi, Emily Cananur, Jenna Humphreys and Darcie Maple finished 4th in their 4x100 heat to qualify for the final where they finished 6th with some great individual performances throughout the race. The 3x800 girls were joined by Georgine Kyte in the 4x300; finishing an incredible 1st in their heat, later finishing 5th in the final.

Some fantastic performances all-round across the two weekends.
