Press Release for Canterbury 10 2024

ParkerSteel to be New Sponsor for the Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race to take place on 21st January 2024.

The organisers of the Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race, Invicta East Kent AC are delighted to announce that ParkerSteel will be the new title sponsors of the race in 2024. The race, which is the largest road race in East Kent will take place on Sunday 21st January.

Close links have also been retained with Canterbury Christ Church University who as part of their community engagement provide the race HQ facilities at their Sports Centre in Pilgrims Way, Canterbury CT1 1PH.

The course, which is mainly run along undulating country lanes to the south of the city, will remain the same as in previous years and takes in the villages of Bridge, Patrixbourne and Bekesbourne.

Locally based Cole Gibbens was the race winner in 2023 with a good time of 52m 15s, with Dartford Harriers Barry Stephenson in second place. Ladies winner in a new course record of 58m 04s was Chelsea Baker of Bristol & West AC from Grace Baker of Hastings AC who also managed to get under the hour.

Entries for the race were up from the 2022 race and there were 1,196 finishers. However, this is still a little lower than numbers before Covid and it is hoped entries will be up towards 1,500 for 2024. Runners of all abilities are welcome to challenge themselves over the 10 mile distance.

There is a significant cash prize for the first three male and female runners and for veteran age groups. There are also prizes for the winning male and female teams.

There is a super new medal for next year’s race and free photographic downloads.

The race will be continuing to support Kent based Demelza Hospice Care for Children. They will have a team of sponsored runners and will also be providing marshal support in return for receiving a cash donation from the race organisers. The entry form also gives entrants the opportunity to donate to the charity.

Race Director Glenn Mousley said “2023 was an excellent race with many competitors achieving personal bests. In 2024 we look forward to the race being an early test for those taking part in one of the spring marathons”
