28 Decathletes from all corners of the UK were decidedly pleased but
nervous to attend the first major national championship of the year
following nearly a two year hiatus...

Douglas Noel missed out on being a senior u20 and stepped out as very young
Senior athlete competing against men up to 10 years older and vastly more
experienced..

His coaches Jacob Burton (Lead), Jack Green (Hurdles & Sprints), Tony
Kesisoglou (Strength Conditioning), Dereck Laws (Pole Vault) and Darren Hutton
(Javelin) were confident that his work both during lockdown and since would
give him a good chance of a high score and hopefully get him in the
rankings.

How right they were! A 7th place overall and a second in the Under 23s with
a final score of 6424 points meant he was the leading Englishman in the U23s. So
the chances of an England call up if the home international games go
ahead.

Douglas comments it was "a tough event with some highs and lows but I'm
very pleased with the shape I'm in and look forward to building on this
performance".

He also thanked all his coaches for their efforts and support.
