Monday 6th March saw Invicta East Kent welcome Regional Coaching Lead Garry Power to the throws cage. Garry, who was an international athlete for Ireland and has been a team coach at World Youth Olympics and European Teams, ran a masterclass session on the discus supporting our throws coaching team of Karl Lowry and Darren Cafferty.
His passion and enthusiasm for the discipline quickly had the athletes in the cage, some for the first time. The visit was supported by England Athletic's Track Nights coaching program, and Garry will be back in the coming weeks to lead sessions on javelin and shotput.
Track Nights is a programme funded by England Athletics to support the development of running, jumping and throwing activity across England Athletics affiliated clubs. The programme matches up experienced coaches with clubs who have requested support in a particular event or event group. The experienced visiting coach attends three sessions at the club to work with the club’s coaches and athletes.
