ParkerSteel Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race
is a sell out for 2024
The Canterbury 10 Mile Road Race, one of the oldest running events in East Kent, is taking place this coming Sunday, 21st January. For the second year running the race is a sell-out with 1,250 runners expected on the start line. There will be no entries available on race-day.
The race will start at 9.00am to help protect runners from any issues with traffic although the majority of the route is on quiet lanes and farm roads. It will challenge runners of all abilities over the 10 mile distance. Entrants are drawn mainly from Kent, but also from other parts of the UK and from overseas. The race starts and finishes in Spring Lane in Canterbury and due to bridge repairs and localised flooding in Patrixbourne there is a revised route but still a picturesque course passing through the villages of Bridge and Bekesbourne. Spectators are welcome.
Drivers are advised that there could be serious delays on parts of the route and to avoid this area between 8.30 am to 11.30am.
Last year’s winner, locally based Cole Gibbens is hoping to return and defend his title but will face serious opposition from several previous and new participants including Barry Stevenson (Dartford Road Runners) who was second last year. The ladies defending champion Chelsea Baker (Bristol & West AC) is also planning to return to the race and will again be challenged by second and third from last year, Grace Baker (Aldershot & Farnham) and Imogen Amos (Tonbridge).
Canterbury based Invicta East Kent Athletic Club, who organise the race, have new sponsors this year in local company ParkerSteel. They have also continued to develop links with Canterbury Christ Church University who supply their Sports Centre as the Race HQ and also supply Physiotherapy students to provide a post-race massage service.
“Demelza Hospice Care for Children” will once again be the chosen charity for the race and in partnership with the organisers they will help to provide marshals on the course.
All runners completing the course will receive a great new bespoke medal and free photographic downloads.
Race Director Glenn Mousley has said : “we are delighted to have ParkerSteel as our new race sponsor and are once again working with Eventrac race marketing software which has been vital in helping the race to continue as the largest road race in East Kent”.
