IEK U11 Christmas XC Run

Cross-Country

On a cold and damp foggy morning 41 young u11 athletes from a number of clubs and schools turned out for Invicta East Kent AC first Cross Country race.

For many this was the first cross country race these young athletes have done, and they did so in typical weather conditions, cold and very foggy, barely able to see the whole course.

A hilly course, with 3 races to be held. In the first race of the morning, 16 x 8-9 year olds set off, for a 1 mile run.  Off they went into the distance barely to be seen in the fog until they emerged from the top of the hill on a down slope to the finish; with Reuben Tranquille of Invicta EK leading them home.

The second race would see a bigger field of 23 x 10-11 year olds; off to complete the 2400m race. As they completed their first lap of the course and tried to keep on their feet in the now quite muddy last corner, Noah Parry from Invicta East Kent AC came in first position.

Our final race saw 2 very young enthusiastic athletes of 6 years old follow after the 2nd race. Off to do just 1 lap of the course these 2 boys did incredibly well, well done Augustus Skinner and Morgan Tranquille.

A great morning's racing was followed by well-earned hot chocolate and mince pies.

A big thank you to all the volunteers that came out and helped to make this event happen and a special thanks to Zoe, Jessica and Joel for being our hares this morning and helping these U11 get round the course.

Thanks also to the visiting clubs and schools - Swale, Sevenoaks and Bligh Primary School, Westbrook Primary School.
