Holly wins County Pentathlon Title

Holly Fielder won the Kent U13 Pentathlon title at Tonbridge on the August Bank Holiday Monday. Her winning score of 2515 (National Grade 1) was not only a massive new personal best (by over 200 points); it was a new Invicta Club Record and a new Kent record by over 300 points. It is a score that now puts her top of the UK 2012 rankings and 15th in the UK all-time rankings.

The day started well for Holly as she lowered her personal best by 0.45seconds in the 70m hurdles to 12.25seconds (National Grade 2) and then set a new long jump personal best of 4.72m (National Grade 1). This put her in the lead in the competition, a position that she was never to lose. She then equalled her shot putt personal best with 6.78m (National Grade 4) and then followed this up with a new life time best in the high jump of 1.39m (National Grade 2).

Holly went in to the final event knowing that a time just below 2minutes 34 seconds in the 800m would take her score above the 2500 mark. She duly achieved this with a time 2minutes 32.43seconds (National Grade 3), her second fastest time ever.

Her final winning margin was over 400 points better than the second placed athlete.

Holly’s long jump still keeps her in the top 10 in the UK in this event (currently 9th).

Holly was also joined in the competition by fellow club mate Emily Higham. She did very well coming 10th in her first Pentathlon and setting new personal bests in the shot putt (6.19m) and 800m (3minutes 3.52 seconds).
