National Junior League Round 1

Sunday saw the first match of the season held in Sutcliffe Park on a very wet and windy day. In this league we are part of a composite team with Paddock Wood and are called Invicta’s Paddock! Between us we had seventeen athletes who competed in thirty events. (A&B strings and non-scoring)

Jacob and Ben Burton, having moved into the under twenty age group are now able to compete in up to five events and they took the opportunity to concentrate on field events. Our other field athletes were Caroline Shepheard  (PW throws), Mason Doyle (PW jumps), Bradley Wake-Smith jumps and shot putt and Levy Smith(PW discus). Special thanks go to this group as they had to stand around for long intervals in some very cold and wet weather.

On the track were Bobby Clay, Rebecca Weston, Annabel Carter, Lilly Coward, Elliott Burton, Jaffer Adams, Joe Hawkins, James Pitcher, Ben Hall, Jack Goss and Rob Leat (PW). Gilien Davison, the team manager commented that “All gave very creditable performances but I would like to single out James Pitcher and Bobby Clay who both ran the longest race of the day, which was 3000m. James’ time was 9minutes 41.6 and Bobby, 9minutes 36.3, which earned her Athlete of the Match.”

Despite having no relay teams we finished fifth out of seven teams, only 35 points behind Croydon. Well done to all of you.
