Kent Cross Country League 5  (Seniors only)  -  Saturday 11 February 2012 (Swanley)

Both Chris Holmes & Mark Wilkins finish ahead of Andy Rayner (B&B) winner of this year's Canterbury 10

  Six Men contest 4th (last) fixture - No IEK Female contests final League race

    Men's team is 4th on the day and finish 3rd in the League, ahead of Blackheath

      Chris Holmes first IEK on the day but Mark Wilkins is highest IEK Male who who completed all 4 races

          Despite no IEK Female in this race, Senior Women are 8th in League of 17 Kent Clubs

             Emily Hosker Thornhill leading IEK Female and 1st in Kent of those completing 3 of the 4 races

The race at Swanley brought down the curtain on IEK's most successful campaign by our Senior Men in the last 15 years, when they finished 3rd overall - not only just 7 points adrift of League Champions Tonbridge but also a satisfying single point ahead of the mighty Blackheath & Bromley.

Our Women fielded a complete team in 2 of the four matches yet finish 8th, just 2 points adrift of Folkestone who fielded a team in all 4 matches

In a race where League Champions, Tonbridge, had no fewer than seven (7) in the top 10, our leading Man at Swanley, Chris Holmes was (12th) just 13 seconds ahead of Mark Wilkins (14) and both finish in the League's top 10 individuals who contested all 4 races.

An indication of how much Tim Corby has improved

this winter is that, In the first match of this campaign (also held at Swanley) he finished 62nd, more than 5½ minutes adrift of Mark who, in almost the same position as now, had finished 15th. With each race, Tim has climbed steadily through the county pecking order - here he was 25th (3rd IEK home) 11 places and not much more than one minute behind Mark.

Rounding off the IEK scorers Alex Newson (37) was 8th of the 8 under-20s in a race featuring 54 Seniors among 138 runners, 76 of them veterans.

Alex finishes 11th overall individual of those who did all 4 races with Tim 14th.

Rob Whittaker was 61st in the race and 4th vet-50 with

evergreen John Wilkins (134) the 7th vet-60 on the day. In the overall individual standings, Jason Prickett and

Kieran Reilly (both u-20) are 2nd and 8th among those who raced twice in this League

In total 332 Men raced in this League this year - of the 143 who raced only once, Tom Corbett is ranked 10th, Chris Thomas (u20) is 15th followed by a clutch of IEK veterans Rob Whittaker (33), Trevor Edgley (92) John Wilkins (103) and Michael Gallyer Barnett 126th.  


In the Women's section, Emily Hosker Thornhill is the top of the Kent runners who did 3 races while, among those who raced twice, Charlotte Grandfield is 3rd, followed by Kyla Clay (9) Vicky Talbot Rosner (14) and Sue Cooper (20) with Beth Burnett 21st.

In her 1st season Lucy Clarke was an impressive 50th of the 67 who raced once in this league this winter
