Phil Anthony – first Brit home in Berlin marathon

Phil Anthony, an IEK member, was representing GB in the recent Berlin marathon on 30th September 2012. He came in 19th out of a staggering 40,000 entrants from across the sporting world. Phil ran 2.18:05 which was just a bit slower than his performance in London (where he was the 2nd Brit home in a PB of 2.16:40 and 20th overall).

Phil was struggling a little during the race and ended up in the medical tent at the end of the race! He is reported as not being able to remember the second half of the race. As Peter Mullervy, coach at IEK commented “It really was mind over matter!”

The race favourite Geoffrey Mutai of Kenya won the race in 2.04:15, which was only half a minute slower than the world record.

Well done to Phil – a great performance under the circumstances!
