 Kent County T & F Championships 2019

There were some incredible performances from Invicta’s sprinters at the County Championships this weekend. Korede Awe left his mark in the 100m heat when he ran a huge personal best of 10.55. As the wind and rain came over we thought another PB was unlikely but in fact he ran 10.47 in the final!! In the same final, Max Heavens took the bronze with a new personal best for him as well with 10.74. The podium replicated that of the 60m indoors with the same three men to go head to head in the 200m the following day. Some serious competition between the three of them! Femi Awe also ran a strong race to qualify for the final alongside his brother and Leslie Lartey represented Invicta in the heats as well. Femi also picked up a PB in the final with 11.38

In the 200m, the same feat was completed with Korede taking the gold, the same Tonbridge athlete the silver and Max the bronze. The standards were set high with Korede cruising to victory in the heat with 21.91! He was given a race on his hands by Jack Lennard (Tonbridge, who won the first heat) but finished with a time of 21.47, 0.30 ahead of Lennard. Max ran 21.93 to pick up another personal best for him and another bronze medal. His season’s aim was to run sub-22s and he has achieved this already! Korede’s time takes him to 22nd against the fastest men in Britain. Femi also ran a fantastic heat to finish in 3rd place and qualify for the final where he finished 5th.

Jake Goodman picked up the silver in both the 100m and 200m with two huge PBs as well with an 11.1 in the 100(to put him 3rd in the UK!) And a 9th place ranking 200m with 22.33. Chloe Sumner picked up the bronze in only her 3rd ever 300m with 40.82 to start the season 12th in the country. Both athletes only 16 and showing real potential for the future.

On the Saturday, Barney Dougal had a tough race in the 400m, going off hard to catch his competitors. He finished 7th with a time of 54.35.

Lauren Macey produced a fantastic personal best of 69.14 in the 400m hurdles in her first year at this distance.

Scarlet Thomas-Wright finished in a strong 2nd in the heat of her 100m with a time of 13.73 and later finished 5th in the semi final with a new season’s best of 13.62.

Invicta were also well represented in the middle distance races with 3 out of 4 women in the 800m being from Invicta – Alex Millard took the gold in 2:15.96 (just under a second off her PB) Imogen Amos the bronze with a new PB of 2:28.76 and Louise Flynn in fourth also with a PB in 2:33.62. The same three took on the 1500 where Alex again took gold with Imogen and Louise finishing 4th and 5th respectively. Imogen shaved a fantastic 15 seconds from her personal best in her first track county championships.

In the U15 women’s 1500, Teigan Sullivan finished in a strong 4th place with 5:00.67, just two seconds off her PB while Millie Knightley and Tallulah Butcher finished 9th and 13th in the same race both with new Pbs.

In the U15 men’s 800m, Jamie Keir and Reef Page dominated their heat to finish 1st and 2nd, with Reef then going on to take the silver in the final and Jamie finishing in 4th. Reef’s 2:08 run was a 4 second personal best. In the U17 race, Oscar Parrick picked up the silver with Tom Williams finishing 9th in the same race.

Reef also finished 4th in his 80m hurdles heat to qualify for the final where he finished 6th. His heat time was just 0.02 from his PB.  He also finished 5th in the long jump with a jump of 4.93m, just shy of his PB. A busy weekend for Reef, he also picked up a new PB in the shot putt with 10.06m.

In the 1500m Invicta dominated again in the form of Jamie Keir who took the gold in 4:23.91 and Tom Hutton the silver with a time of 4:32.75 while in the U17 men’s race, Charlie Brisley picked up the bronze in a time of 4:03.00 (just 1s from his PB).

Multi-eventer, Doug Noel picked up silver in the pole vault with 3.80m and gold in the discus with an incredible 40.56m which was enabled him to reach English Schools entry standard. He also won gold in the javelin.

Despite coming back from injury, Jildou Chappell got the bronze in the javelin with a huge personal best of 28m. She also got a new PB in the long jump with 4.19m. Isabelle Harding picked got two new personal bests in both the 80m hurdles (12.31) and shot putt (9.60m)

Quinn Bury finished 5th in his first County Championships in the high jump with a jump of 1.55m and also the long jump with a jump of 4.73m, reaching a new PB.

All in all a fantastic weekend for Invicta with 17 medals brought home and countless new personal bests.
